This module explains the growing role of educational measurement and how expertise in this area can support teachers continuously try to improve their instruction. The first lesson provides a modern context for educational measurement. The second lesson focuses on some important aspects of the vocabulary and concepts of measurement, testing, evaluation, and assessment. The third lesson provides an historical context for the recent increased role of testing in schools in the United States, including a review of some controversies associated with testing.
